Carl & Sandy Halquist, Senior and Visitation Pastor
I was born in South Bend, Indiana. My
parents were Christians, members of an
Assemblies of God church. My maternal grandfather was the pastor of the
church
that my father and his family attended. I have a rich spiritual heritage
from both
my paternal and maternal grandparents. When I was 12 years of age I sensed the
call of God to be in the ministry at my Grandfather Petersen’s funeral. I
was the only
grandson on the Petersen side of the family and felt that I was to carry on
where my
grandfather left off.
When I was 14 years old our family moved to
Turlock, California where I attended
Junior High and High School. After graduating from High School I attended
Bethany
Bible College, Santa Cruz, California for one year. After that year my
father, mother
and I bought a restaurant. I was a partner in that business for five years
before I
decided to finish my college training and dissolved my partnership.
I finished my college training at Central Bible College, Springfield, MO. This is where I met Sandra Hunt who would later become my wife. We have both graduated from Central Bible College. We were married on August 18, 1962 and finished our last year of training.
We have been in the fulltime ministry since 1964. We had one year of mentoring as an associate pastor at Delhi, California. Then we pastored 6 years in the Assemblies of God, Indiana District. In 1977 we accepted a pastorate in the Assemblies of God, Michigan District and have pastored in this district since that time. I also served as the Sectional Presbyter for the Assemblies of God, Michigan District for 5 years.
Just prior to coming to Trinity Assembly of God, we pastored at Central Assembly of God, Grand Rapids, MI., for 16 years. 1999 I joined the staff at Trinity Assembly of God serving as the Minister of Pastoral Care.
We have two boys who live in Grand Rapids, MI. They each have two children. Scott and Kristi have twin boys. John and Julie have a boy and a girl.
